Michael J. Abraham - Embroidery As An Element

As a third-generation embroiderer Artist Mike Abraham learned traditional hand guided Chenille embroidery techniques at age 13. Chenille is French for caterpillar or fuzzy caterpillar. Webster’s says “a wool, cotton, silk, or rayon yarn with protruding pile" used in embroidery or for fringing. Traditionally it is a time honored form of embroidery created by using a handle guided Chenille sewing machine producing either a tufted stitch or a loop stitch.

”Rows of "loops" and details are sewn into the canvas to “paint” color textures with thread.  Other embroidered areas in the art are done either by hand stitching or by modern digitizing techniques which combine to incorporate both modern and "lost art" embroidery directly into the mixed media canvas.
